Past Projects & Client Testimonials
There wasn't much here aside from an overgrown Japanese fantail willow in need of a good pruning. As we studied the space we decided to use it with it's horizontal, twisted branches to frame an informal pea gravel patio. Shade perennials surround the entire space making it a delightful place to sit with a good book or catch up with old friends.
small space design
One of the first questions the owner of this Lower Gwynedd home asked us was, "Is this space too small to work with?". Our answer? Of course not! Two multi-stem sweetbay magnolia and raised planters now offer enough privacy for an intimate seating nook, surrounded by horticultural details and antique touches. Photos show before and After...
contemporary borders
Our custom design for this hillside property offers a contemporary take on fencing. Graduated slat specialty hardwood affords privacy within while maintaining outside views of the lush tree canopy and neighboring park.
woodland border
A boulder wall which rests firmly on a chiseled bedrock formation joins a thickly planted woodland border with open lawn space intended for child's play. Many of the plants are edible - the osrtrich fern has a tasty frond, Jerusalem artichoke edible tubers resembling artichoke in their flavor and texture. Large, native pawpaw fruits are perhaps the most exciting part of this natural border. There are native honeysuckle blooms and a variety of native berries for eating. And of course plenty left for the birds. Both the planting border and lawn spaces fulfill an important purpose.
townhouse garden room
Both this federal style townhome and it's owner demanded a unique entry garden. So together we designed this space new with it's single stone bench surrounded by horticultural detail, carefully selected garden antiques, and pithy signage - which reflects the unique qualities of it's owner. The space gives welcome to guests and provides a luring space to sit in the evening, wine glass in hand while enjoying the horticultural details it has to boast of.
hillside living
When we first sat down with the owners of this alluring Main Line property, they said "We just aren't able to use the space." Walking out their back door you would have been met immediately by a steep, overgrown hill slope with nothing but a set of meandering steps to take you through it. They wanted to get so much more out of their property than the current layout of their hillside backyard allowed. Fast forward and you will find that under the old canopy of oak, cherry and dogwood they now enjoy a beautiful flagstone patio for mingling with friends, a hot tub corner, a busy and colorful summer hillside garden abuzz with pollinating bees and butterflies, and children's playground that all come together in one hillside space for a great backyard experience.
patio retreat & garden walk
Bold, colorful, natural were the words when we sat down with the owners of this space to design from scratch. They lead vibrant lives and wanted a space that reflected them. Here, a moss-infused, sprawling flagstone patio surrounded by detailed, naturalistic gardens with a unique garden path as an entry point gives them just that, while providing a private retreat within this neighborly community.
contemporary gathering
Small space, big feel. This bluestone patio designed on two levels with a linear emphasis gradually blends with lawn as the spaces are meant to feel open, as one. A bold fireplace wrapped with copper and fieldstone veneer offers a center for gathering with friends around the fire or spending a warm quiet evening with family.
spring tennis court garden
Foxtrot Manor, 2016 Bucks County Designer House & Gardens. Sit and catch your breath after a tennis game or grab a book on a sunny morning to enjoy this hidden corner between Foxtrot Manor's tennis court and pool house. This formerly neglected space has now become a cheery, welcoming tennis garden with many detailed blooms to offer their inspiration.
